Tempura and Robatayaki Restaurant At Great World City Ami Ami which means ‘net’ in Japanese, is a Tempura, Robatayaki and Seafood-focused restaurant. It is helmed by award-winning Master Chef Naoki Tsuzuki with over two decades of culinary experience.
What immediately appealed to me were the counter seats, where you can watch the tempura masters fry the hot tempura behind, then presented to you on your plate.
The signature Ami Ami Tempura Set ($45.80++) is value-for-money, as it includes prawn, chicken, fish, vegetable tempura deep fried ala-minute, along with Sashimi of the day, Charcoal-grilled live scallop, Egg tempura & vegetable kakiage tempura rice bowl, Miso soup and Pickles.

Dine, Paint And Shop At This Lifestyle Space At Orchard Central The space houses a kaffatea room (Steamroom), restaurant (The Pillar), retail and art lab (Stones).
“Steamroom” represents the process of kaffatea brewing; food is the key “Pillar” that brings people together; and “Stones” as a medium for the earliest form of art, reflects SRPS’ creative initiatives.
Selection includes Hamachi Ceviche ($14), Angus Beef Tartare ($16), Spanner Crab Salad ($15), The Norwegian Flatbread ($18), Braised Beef Cheeks ($32), Lobster Fregola Sarda Pasta ($28), Coal Smoked Red Snapper ($28) and Salmon Ochazuke ($24).
It is a beautiful space, but I wasn’t completely sure if the concept would sit well with the typical customers at Orchard Central.
Popular Hokkaido Soup Curry Shop Arrives In Singapore, 30 Levels Of Spiciness The popular Sama Curry & Café hailing from Hokkaido Japan, has opened its first Singapore store at OUE Downtown 2 Gallery Level 2.
Sama soup curry uses a different recipe, with ramen style broth as its base, then mixes tomato, coconut or shrimp to turn it into a full bodied soup before adding curry spices. I had a Cheesy Bear ($16.90), Level 7, Coconut base.
It turned out to be a pleasant meal, with the curry base flavourful and with depth. In fact, I wished I had ordered something spicier so that it would have more kick.
Szechuan Food By Michelin Starred Chef From Shisen Hanten This Chen’s Mapo Tofu at offers a range of Szechuan classics, such as the signature Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐), Dong Po Rou (东坡肉) and Dan Dan Mien (担担面) in a fuss-free environment, at casual-dining prices.
The surname Chen is in fact referring to Chef Chen Kentaro, 3rd Generation owner of Shisen Hanten (四川饭店) which originated and boasted 14 outlets across Japan. His restaurant at Mandarin Orchard was also awarded .
The star dish of the place definitely goes to Mapo Don ($8.80). While Szechuan classics usually come smack at your face with bold and strong flavors, Chen’s Mapo Tofu was somewhat mellower and subdued, perhaps to cater to the local CBD crowd.

Mandarin’s Famous Chicken Rice Goes Casual And Affordable At $8 Chatterbox has started an “Express by Chatterbox” concept at , serving this classic Singapore dish and other local favourites at mostly $10 or below.
Accordingly, the method of preparation and the source of ingredients for Signature Chicken Rice and Signature Laksa Noodle with Prawn are the same as how they are served at Mandarin Orchard Singapore Chatterbox Café.
Expectedly, the presentation came a lot sadder looking (the very orangey lighting didn’t help), but give and take.
Well, I must say I still liked the chicken pieces, and had that gloss of oil wrapping around the slippery meat. I also wished the portion was bigger.
Donjjang Korean Restaurant 33 Mohamed Sultan Rd #01-05, Singapore 238977
Korean Barbecue With Dramatic BIG Fire, Go For The Army Stew Donjjang at 33 Mohamed Sultan Road is one of those Korean restaurants that completely goes under the radar – no Facebook page, no Instagram, not even a Google search entry.
Taking over Midnight House Korean Charcoal BBQ, Donjjang specialises in Korean BBQ and family style dishes.
Price is a little on the high side though. A basic barbecue beef set is priced at $200, while the pork set goes for $150.
I found that Donjjang managed to do their Army Stew aka Budae Jjigae ($45) well, making this one of my favourite Budae Jjigae in Singapore. Though I could imagine some may wish that it can be spicier or more kimchi-tangy.
Orgasmic, Balsamic And Devil’s Crab. Add A Special Hokkien Mee Another crab restaurant has opened in Singapore, but Holycrab at Tan Quee Lan Street comes with some ‘hipster’ element and quirkiness.
Helmed by the straight-talking Chef Elton Seah, he used to operate Holycrab as a private dinning concept for 7 years, but decided to collaborate with the owners of to set this up.
Some of the recommendations include Holy Crab with thick vermicelli in rich crab broth; Succumb Crabs cooked with fine vermicelli; Devil’s Crab in butter sauce Balsamic Crabs; Singapore Chilli Crabs; and Orgasmic Crabs which are essentially salted egg yolk ones.
Laneway Market Café Opens Restaurant At North Bridge Road, 4 Course Meal At $25.0+ Located on the ground level of Hotel Clover at 775 North Bridge Road (somewhat near Bugis), Brine aims to bring casual fine dining (I know this is an oxymoron) at affordable pricing to the masses.
Apart from a-la-carte items, they also offer set course meals ranging from $25 – $45 (with snacks and amuse bouche), and menu is subject to change.
The Japanese-inspired Furikake Scrambled Eggs ($14) topped with ebiko provided an additional popping texture to the comfort egg dish.

The dinner ala-carte menu has a wider variety, serving a spread of starters such as Deep Fried Chicken Skin, Gyoza, Fresh Octopus marinated with wasabi sauce, Salads, Charcoal Grill items, Kushiyaki, Deep Fried Food, Donburi, Noodles and Desserts.
